Sons of Fermanagh

Fermanagh born musicians, Andrew Irwin, tenor and Gareth Knox, pianist, will join forces to present an evening of song in the classical genre including Beethoven, Schumann, Fauré, Vaughan Williams and Schubert.

Andrew, who studied at the Chetham’s School of music and then the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, is primarily based in Germany where he performs opera, operetta and musicals. He says he always looks forward to returning home to perform in his native Fermanagh. He last performed for Music in Fermanagh in 2018 but his most recent performance with Gareth was for FLive Arts Festival, a truly memorable evening featuring songs by artists like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and well known jazz standards.

Gareth first made his mark as a talented pianist at a local level at Fermanagh Feis after which he went on to study in both Dublin at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and then the Royal College of Music London where he graduated with BMus (Hons) in 2001. Since then he has performed in ensembles, as a soloist and as an accompanist in various venues in London and Paris notably at the London Handel Festival in St George’s, Hanover Square, and on tour at La Madeleine in Paris and the Cathedrals in Chartres and Verona. Recently he has returned home after 25 years of experience as recitalist, chamber musician and accompanist and is now working as a piano teacher, freelance musician, and church organist.

Barry Douglas Gala Concert

Music in Fermanagh is delighted to celebrate its tenth Anniversary this year. Ten years of superb classical music concerts from these islands and beyond have brought a captivating range of high quality performances to the Fermanagh audience and this milestone is to be marked by a special Gala concert by the internationally renowned pianist Barry Douglas.

Experience a rare opportunity to hear one of Ireland’s greatest musicians live at the Ardhowen - an evening of beauty, brilliance and profound artistry featuring the music of Schubert (Impromptus 1 and 2, Opus 142), Prokofiev (pieces from Romeo and Juliet) and Liszt (Piano Sonata in B minor) - and join the Music in Fermanagh team during the concert for a celebratory drink.

Quatuor Bela at St. Macartin's Cathedral

This Moving on Music tour is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Quatuor Béla are one of France’s leading string quartets. Guided by the personality and work of Béla Bartok, the quartet play and deliver programmes with sincere conviction.

Quatuor Béla have become one of the leading European quartets working with contemporary composers such as Garth Knox, Kaija Saariaho and Francesca Verunelli.Founded in 2006 by four musicians from the National Higher Conservatory of Music of Lyon and Paris, the Béla Quartet is committed to championing new compositions and exploring the relationship between composers and performers. This tour of NI will feature significant works of the classical repertoire with Beethoven’s 7th ‘Razumovsky’ Quartet, Fauré’s only string quartet and his final composition, alongside three new pieces by NI composers Simon Mawhinney, Piers Hellawell and Pedro Rebelo. 

The evening is presented by Music in Fermanagh, a registered charity, with generous support from Fermanagh/Omagh District Council.

The Fidelio Trio at Saint Macartin's Cathedral

Tuesday 18 February 2025, 8pm

The virtuosic Fidelio Trio — Darragh Morgan (violin), Tim Gill (cello), and Mary Dullea (piano) — returned to Music in Fermanagh on Tuesday, 18th February 2025, at St Macartin's Cathedral, Enniskillen, for an evening of exceptional chamber music. The programme began with Schubert’s lyrical String Trio in E-flat major, D. 929, followed by Beethoven's much-loved and dramatic Piano Trio in D major, Op. 70, No. 1 ("Ghost"), known for its haunting second movement. The concert concluded with Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht, Op. 4, a groundbreaking work that bridged Romanticism and modernism.

Renowned for their dynamic performances and international acclaim, The Fidelio Trio offered a rich exploration of the string trio repertoire, uniting melodic beauty, emotional depth, and innovative harmony. Shortlisted for the 2016 Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, The Fidelio Trio broadcasted regularly on BBC Radio 3, RTÉ Lyric FM, and were featured on Sky Arts. Since their debut at London’s Southbank Centre, The Fidelio Trio regularly appeared at London's Wigmore Hall, Dublin's National Concert Hall, Kilkenny and Belfast Festivals, as well as in celebrated concerts throughout Europe, North America, and Asia.
