"Cahal plays with great intensity, has a wonderful technique and can cast new light on the most standard works with the breadth of his interpretation” John O’Conor
Acclaimed Northern Ireland pianist Cahal Masterson joined Music in Fermanagh for an enchanting solo recital on Tuesday, 29th October 2024, at the historic St. Macartin's Cathedral in Enniskillen. The captivating evening featured the delicate piano works of Clara Schumann, seamlessly intertwined with some of the most tender compositions by her husband, Robert Schumann. The programme also included Belfast-born composer Stephen Gardner's contemporary masterpiece, The Brahmdel Variations, offering a modern counterpoint to Brahms' cherished Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel. Masterson, celebrated for his exceptional technique and emotive performances, brought a deep connection to this repertoire.
After the exciting and delightful piano recital in St Macartin’s Cathedral the night before, Masterson was again in action the following morning providing masterclasses to seven lucky pupils from secondary schools in Enniskillen.
Music in Fermanagh, who organised the events, wish to thank Miss Armstrong, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School and Dean Hall, St Macartin’s Cathedral, for allowing them to use their premises. Thanks are also due to FODC whose support led to an excellent and worthwhile opportunity for music students of Fermanagh to improve their piano skills and to extend their knowledge of repertoire.
